Help - URL Descriptions
|
A shortened URL is a wonderful thing, but it doesn't offer much information about
what you will find at the other end of the link after you've clicked on it. One of
our ways of helping to fix that problem is by offering the ability to enter a
description of the original link when you shorten it. Try to be honest and descriptive
but try to keep it short, you aren't being graded by how many pages it is, so you don't
need to pretend it's a term paper. The description of the URL you enter is visible when you peek at a URL, and may also be used automatically when you Twitter a URL or post it on your Facebook wall through this page. Since Twitter is limited to 140 characters and we allow more than that for a description (and you'll lose a bunch for the link itself, you will be given a chance to edit the description before you submit it. Any part of the description beyond the 140 character limit after the URL is created will be chopped off the end unceremoniously. This limitation does not apply to Facebook, but you will still be able to edit the description before submitting. The revised descriptions created when you post to either Twitter or Facebook are not saved and do not revise the originally entered description. In fact, descriptions can only be entered at the time a URL is shortened, if you weren't creative enough to put anything in at that time you are just out of luck. |
